Askalon och Emerson på Kärnkraftsdagarna i Stockholm

Future and optimism at Swedish Symposium

During Tuesday and Wednesday 21-22 November, Askalon was an exhibitor at the Swedish Symposium on Nuclear Power Technology in Stockholm - the single largest annual nuclear power industry event. Askalon was represented by Linda Grönqvist and Mats Görrel.

Swedish Symposium on Nuclear Power Technology is organized by Kiwa. The two-day symposium centers on: New nuclear power developments, assurance of safe long-term operation of nuclear power plants, experiences and developments within materials, loads, dynamics, thermohydraulics, structural integrity, testing, quality assurance and safety assessments.

Due to the pandemic, the symposium have been held digitally for a couple of years, but in 2022 it was finally time for a live event again. This year, Askalon was joined by two representatives from Emerson - Evgeny Semirich from Sempell in Germany and Cecile Neidhardt from Fisher Cernay.

This year's symposium was about the future and it was imbued with optimism. Among other things, both Vattenfall and Forsmark talked about upgrades at Forsmark 1, and a study to be started for upgrading Forsmark 3. They also talked about the study they have started regarding a possible new construction at Ringhals.

The companies Seaborg and Blykalla also held their own seminars on the so-called SMR (Small Modular Reactor) that they have under development. During Tuesday evening's dinner, the Environment Department's State Secretary Daniel Westlén also came and talked for a few minutes about the government's view on nuclear power and its future importance in Sweden. There were also several other seminars that dealt with new technology and the future.

Between the seminars, the participants gathered outside in a serving room. Here was Askalon's stand and during the breaks the participants had the opportunity to talk to exhibitors. Askalon's stand had a number of visits with a lot of interesting contacts and questions.
